Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent kicks off their 2023 walk season

The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent (ASCK) is encouraging residents to put the unity in community by walking together for those living with dementia during this year’s IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.

ASCK wants to continue connecting with the Chatham-Kent (C-K) community and that’s why they are building upon last year’s fundraising event.

Walk Wednesdays are back, organizers say.

These weekly walks are scattered across C-K throughout the month of May.

Participants can enjoy evening strolls at various walking trails in Tilbury, Blenheim and Wallaceburg.

These weekly walks will lead up to the Grand Finale Walk in Chatham at Kingston Park.

Mystery prizes, tribute signs, a photo frame and an interactive art piece will be featured at each walk.

The Grand Finale Walk will wrap up this year’s walk season with live entertainment, vendors, food, games, a photo booth, live painting and more fun.

ASCK is currently seeking pictures of those affected by dementia, past or present, for their tribute signs.

Anyone who wishes to partake in this beautiful tribute can email pictures and names to Joel Emery, Fund Development/Admin Coordinator, at jemery@alzheimerchathamkent.ca.

The details of the weekly walks are as follows:

– Northside Park Trail (Tilbury) – Wednesday, May 10 from 5:30-7PM

– Be-Fit Trail (Blenheim) – Wednesday, May 17 from 5:30-7PM

– Crothers Park Trail (Wallaceburg) – Wednesday, May 24 from 5:30-7PM

– Kingston Park Trail (Chatham) – Saturday, May 27 from 10:00AM-12PM

Rain dates for all walks will be the following day at the same time.

This year, ASCK is inviting local businesses and long-term care/retirement homes to compete in a fundraising challenge.

All that is required to participate in this challenge is to register a team for the Walk and begin raising funds.

The business and the home that raises the most funds will win the inaugural Heart & Sole Award along with further recognition.

The annual Dawn Butler Memorial Awards will also be presented to the top individual and team fundraisers.

ASCK surpassed last year’s goal of $55,000 and they are hopeful they can do that again this year with their new goal of $60,000.

ASCK sees an increase in the demand for their services every year and their fundraising goal will ensure they can continue to meet that demand.
