Man arrested for assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 8:07 p.m., police responded to Centre Street in Chatham for a disturbance.

Upon arrival, police learned the man had verbally argued with another man.

He was directed to leave the property but failed to do so.

The situation escalated when the man grabbed and tackled the other man.

A witness intervened and was also assaulted.

The 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 9:36 a.m., police began investigating an assault reported at the front desk of police headquarters.

Police learned the woman picked up the man and bought him coffee.

The man began arguing with the woman when she refused to drive her to an address to retrieve property.

The man threw the coffee at the woman and began kicking the windshield of her vehicle.

The woman went to the police station and filed a report.

The 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested, charged with assault with a weapon, and held pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 1:42 p.m., police responded to Grand Avenue West in Chatham for a shoplifting investigation.

The man entered the business, removed merchandise from the shelves and left without paying.

A description of the man was provided to the police.

Police located the man on Victoria Street, and he was arrested.

The 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with theft and possessing the stolen property.

He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of May 8, 2023.

Man arrested for intoxicated in public place

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 22, 2023, at 1:04 a.m. police responded to a disturbance at a King Street West establishment in Chatham.

Upon arrival police learned the man was causing issues with employees.

He was intoxicated and unable to care for himself.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested, transported to police headquarters, and held until he was sober.
