Firearm and drug charges laid on Walpole Island

Lambton OPP officials allege: On March 31, 2023, members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), along with members from other OPP CSCU teams, Lambton County OPP Crime Unit, Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Canine Unit executed a search warrant on Austin Road on Walpole Island First Nation.

Three individuals were taken into custody and multiple firearms were located in the residence.

A 41-year-old Walpole Island First Nation man has been charged with the following:

– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (five counts),

– Careless Storage of a Firearm (five counts),

– Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts),

– Possession of a schedule 1 substance (two counts),

– Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5,000 and,

– Failure to comply with undertaking.

A 34-year-old of Walpole Island First Nation, has been charged with the following:

– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (five counts),

– Careless Storage of a Firearm (five counts) and,

– Careless storage of ammunition.

A 25-year-old Walpole Island First Nation woman, has been charged with the following:

– Failure to comply with release order (two counts).

The 41-year-old and the 25-year-old were held in custody following a bail hearing on March 31.

The 34-yuear-old was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
