Crash leads to criminal charges
OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment has charged an individual following a single-vehicle collision investigation.
On April 11, 2023, at approximately 4:36 p.m., members the Chatham Detachment received multiple traffic complaints involving a passenger vehicle travelling on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
Shortly after receiving the initial traffic complaint, officers were updated that the involved vehicle had left the roadway resulting in a single-vehicle collision near the Mull Road overpass.
When police arrived on scene the driver was displaying signs of impairment and the driver was taken into custody.
Additionally, investigators determined the involved vehicle had previously been reported stolen.
As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old with no fixed address was charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Possession property obtained by crime over $5000
– Mischief Under $5000
– Drive motor vehicle – no licence
– Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The driver was assessed on scene by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the collision.
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) was initiated as per statute.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on May 8, 2023.

As a direct result, officers located the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.

Traffic compliant leads to charges
OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment located and investigated a passenger vehicle after receiving a report of suspected impaired driver.
On April 10, 2023, at approximately 3:56 a.m., an officer of the Chatham Detachmen located the vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old man of Etobicoke, Ontario was charged with:
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on May 15, 2023.
Woman arrested for failing to attend
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On September 8, 2022, the woman was arrested and charged with theft and possessing stolen property due to a shoplifting investigation.
The woman was released with a court date of September 19, 2022.
When the woman failed to attend this court date, a warrant was issued for her arrest.
On April 12, 2023, at 12:57 p.m., the 28-year-old Chatham woman was located on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham and arrested.
She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Man arrested for breach of probation
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On August 26, 2022, police completed a Breach of Probation investigation, resulting in a warrant being issued for the man’s arrest.
On April 12, 2023, at 2:37 p.m., police located the man on Elgin Street in Wallaceburg.
The 32-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and released with a future court date of May 1, 2023.
