Automated License Plate Recognition system leads to charges on the 401

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On April 19, 2023, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a member of the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle affixed with license plates previously reported stolen travelling on the westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent following a notification from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Toronto man was charged with:

– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

– Drive motor vehicle – no licence

– Use plate not authorized for vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on May 29, 2023.
