Update: Police seeking video surveillance footage, after a shooting in downtown Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: As previously reported, on April 30, 2023, police responded to a shooting incident between King Street West and Fifth Street in Chatham.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

The man sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and remains in the care of medical professionals.

Jared Atwell, 25 years of Chatham, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder with a firearm.

He appeared in bail court over the weekend and was remanded in custody for his next appearance on May 5, 2023.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to reassure the public there is no concern for public safety.

These individuals were known to each other, and the incident is considered an isolated event.

As we continue to investigate, we ask anyone with video surveillance or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
