Robin Southgate

J Robin Southgate, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the age of 88.

He will be remembered lovingly by his children Melody Southgate, Christopher (Alison) Southgate, Allison (Kurt) Fellner, Greg (Shannon) Southgate; their late mother Patricia; Brittany Southgate (John Gamba), McKenzie ‘Mak’ Southgate, and their mother Abigail. Cherished Grandad of Victoria (James), Carolyn (Scott), Laine, Julia, Claire, Emily, Daniella, and great grandson, Benjamin. Robin will now be reunited with his parents, Jack and Muriel Southgate, as well as his siblings Sheila, Doug (Annaliese), and Shirley (Geoff). He is survived by his dear brother Terry (Nadine) of Mexico.

Robin was a successful investment advisor for 56 years, retiring at the age of 78, in 2013. He lived by the philosophy of giving back to the community, in gratitude for all the support he received: By serving on the Wallaceburg Town Council (1970s), being a dedicated Rotarian (1961-2021), and participating with the Scouts Canada organization (1960s-70s), he was responsible for the concept of installing sidewalks throughout Wallaceburg, the building of a seniors’ residence and the high school pool, and the purchase of a camp property for the Scouts. He participated in WAMBO 30 years consecutively, showing the same classic boat, his beloved Shepherd ‘Just Relaxing’. Robin was a faithful member of St. James Anglican Church.

While his boats were his first love, his family came a close second. Life was for living, and true to this, his life was packed with adventure. He travelled extensively and was enthralled with history, but he had a particular affinity for Ireland, England, and Cuba.

Robin’s family would like to express their gratitude to all the Care Team on 4E at Riverview Gardens for the care and support given to their father over the last few years. Cremation Arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg, 519-627-3231. Robin will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery with a Celebration of Life to take place later this summer. If you wish to give back to the community as Robin so often did, please consider donations to Rotary International or St. James Anglican Church (Wallaceburg). Cherished stories and tributes may be left for the family at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca.
