Spring powwow kicks off on Walpole Island First Nation

The 29th Annual Spring Powwow kicked off on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Walpole Island Sports Complex Fairgrounds.

The event continues on Sunday, May 21, 2023.

Admission is free for the general public.

Grand entry will be held and the powwow will feature the renowned Whiteye Singers as the host drum, with David White Jr. serving as the Arena Director and Pat Redmond as the Emcee.

The event will showcase the Youth & Adult Smoke Dance Exhibition, where participants will display their skills and regalia. Dancers, including Head Sr. Male Dancer Dennis Whiteye, Head Sr. Female Dancer Neebing Whiteye, Head Jr. Male Dancer Cole Shipman, and Head Jr. Female Dancer Miley Soney.

The Baby Pageant will be held on Sunday, along with Inter-tribals, Hoop Dance, and Owl Dance performances.
