Flags lowered in Wallaceburg after ‘heartbreaking’ tragedy

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has lowered the flags at the Wallaceburg Municipal Centre, in recognition of the victims from a weekend crash.

Municipal officials say the community suffered a great loss on Sunday, May 21, 2023 losing three young lives in a tragic motor vehicle accident that happened in Wallaceburg Sunday evening.

The vehicle was carrying five passengers.

One young woman is in critical condition in London hospital and the fourth passenger is recovering from non-life threatening injuries, Municipal officials say.

““This is heart-breaking news,” stated Mayor Darrin Canniff, in a media release.

“As a community we sit in shock and grief thinking of the families, friends and CK staff who are suffering an unthinkable loss. Our thoughts also extend to the driver of the tanker truck as well as our first responders who attended at the scene and provided exemplary service.”

Flags will be flown at half-mast in honour of these young lives at the Wallaceburg Municipal Centre from Tuesday, May 23 throughout the weekend as funeral details are not known at this time, Municipal officials added.

At the upcoming Council Meeting on Monday, May 29, 2023, there will be a moment of silence to recognize the lives of the young victims.
