Dog tag enforcement is set to begin on June 5, 2023 across Chatham-Kent.
“Representatives from PAW Pet and Wildlife Rescue will begin their dog tag enforcement campaign across the municipality,” PAWR officials said in a media release.
“Animal control officers will be going door-to-door, contacting anyone who has not purchased their 2023 municipal dog tag. Municipal dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham or at any municipal office.”
They can also be purchased online and mailed to your residence: https://pawr.org/product-category/dog-tags/
Municipal officials remind residents that the Responsible Animal Ownership By-law #170-2021 requires that all dog owners must obtain municipal dog licences (tags) for their dogs each year.
Residents who fail to purchase 2023 dog tags risk being fined $240.
The cost of a dog tag is $38 per dog which includes the late fee provided the dog has been sterilized otherwise an additional $10 fee is applied.
The by-law enforcement officers will be identified by their animal control uniforms and identification name tag, PAWR officials say.
“Should you no longer own a dog, kindly contact 311 or 519-360-1998 to have your dog license account inactivated,” PAWR officials added.
“For more information on dog tags and animal control, contact the Municipality of Chatham-Kent at 311 or 519-360-1998.
