Man arrested for bail violations

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On July 11, 2023, the man was arrested and placed on conditions, including not communicating with a woman or attending any place she is known to live, work or go to school.

On July 16, 2023, at 1:15 p.m., the man attended Turquoise Court in Chatham and approached the woman who was in the company of family members.

A verbal argument ensued, which resulted in the man assaulting the woman and two others.

The man attended Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters and turned himself in to the police.

The 51-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order and three counts of assault.

He was held pending a bail hearing.

Youth charged with dangerous driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 6:37 p.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

Police learned the pick-up truck struck the railway crossing at Park Avenue West and Degge Street.

The truck continued driving on Park Avenue West before entering a bean field and driving east.

Police responded, immediately located the vehicle, and attempted a traffic stop.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued through the beanfield, crossing over the roadway to a cornfield and striking an apple tree.

The driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Police discovered the vehicle was stolen from a local business.

The 16-year-old Chatham youth was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 7:28 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Police attended in the area and conducted a traffic stop.

The officer believed the man to be under the influence of alcohol, and he was arrested.

The officer also confirmed the man did not have a valid driver’s license.

The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

The 55-year-old Chatham man was charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit and driving while under suspension.

He was released with conditions and a future court date of August 7, 2023.
