OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment has charged an individual following a report of a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed on the Highway 401.
On July 18, 2023, at approximately 2:39 p.m., the OPP received a report of a motorcycle travelling over 200 Km/h and weaving through traffic on the westbound Highway 401 near Lawrence Road, Municipality of West Elgin.
At approximately 3:22 p.m., members of the Chatham Detachment located the motorcycle and took the driver into custody without incident at the Tilbury ONroute Service Centre, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old London man, was charged with the following:
– Dangerous operation
– Operate unsafe vehicle
– Use plate not authorized for vehicle
– Drive motor vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed
– Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on August 28, 2023.
A 14-day impoundment of the involved motorcycle and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension was initiated as per statute.
