The inaugural SheLeads event took place at the Capitol Theatre on Saturday, July 8th. Dr. Erin TeWinkel, ND, co-founder of the event, expressed her excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to announce the success of the first-ever SheLeads event, which saw an incredible turnout with over 200 women joining us for a day filled with inspiration, education, and empowerment.”
SheLeads was a comprehensive day-long conference featuring 19 workshops led by local women.
These workshops covered a diverse range of topics, from tackling Imposter Syndrome to crafting mini-vision boards.
Throughout the day, participants also engaged in educational panels, and the event concluded on a high note with an inspiring fashion show showcasing ensembles from local clothing stores.
The fashion show was curated by Tiff Cunningham, the owner of ‘prem’.
The event adopted a pay-what-you-can model and garnered support from numerous local businesses who acted as sponsors. Co-founder Randi Bokor Caron emphasized the significance of this support, stating, “This event would not have been possible without the exceptional businesses that stepped up as sponsors.” She extended gratitude to Mainstreet Credit Union, Tech Trailers, and Suni Creative for their contributions as Venue, Food, and Marketing sponsors respectively, highlighting their invaluable support.
Proceeds from the event, totaling $500, will be directed to the JoLynn Deprez Athletic Fund, which is managed by the Chatham Kent Community Foundation. The fund, named in honor of Deprez who tragically passed away in 2021, empowers youth in the south Kent region through community sports initiatives.
The fund’s activities included organizing free events such as open skating sessions at Blenheim and Ridgetown arenas, youth bowling in Ridgetown, and sponsored swimming events in Blenheim.
Dr. Erin TeWinkel expressed her satisfaction with the event, saying, “We had an amazing day with the women of CK, and we’re especially pleased to be in a position to contribute to Jo’s fund.” She also announced the exciting news that SheLeads will return in 2024, with planning already underway.
