Progress may not be convenient

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

There is a saying that originated a long time ago in the Middle East, which says, “The dogs are barking but the caravan is moving.”

Sometimes when we make goals for ourselves, and then finally make the move to get started, there will be others in our lives, like family members or coworkers, who may try to talk us out of it.

I am not talking here about good advice to your hair-brained scheme.

Instead, I am talking about those who would hold you back because they think you can’t make it and they want to spare you the embarrassment.

In the New Testament, there are two words to describe the concept of time.

One is chronos, which is linear or chronological time.

It’s where we eat, sleep, and punch the clock.

But the other word, kairos, describes not a set amount of time, but rather a season.

We are just a couple of weeks away from the start of September, which signals the start of the season of fall.

Fall is a time of change, and this may be the perfect time for you to launch out and get that caravan moving, even while the dogs are still barking.

Even King Solomon acknowledged, in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Something that I do every summer, and especially as the days grow shorter to the start of September, is to pray and ask God what direction He wants me to go in and what projects I need to start (and which ones to leave behind!).

I am looking forward to the fall season again this year, and I hope you are, too.

Launch out and try something bold!
