OPP: Impaired driving charge laid following a traffic stop on the 401

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On September 17, 2023, at approximately 12:13 a.m., a member of the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle for observed driving behaviour on the westbound Highway 401 near the 82-Km marker, Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Comber resident was charged with:

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on October 9, 2023.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.
