Upgrades being completed on the Murray Street Bridge in Wallaceburg

As the Murray Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project nears completion, the bridge will not be operable for larger boats that require the lift span to be opened from Monday, October 16, 2023 to Monday, November 20, 2023.

“This closure is required to complete upgrades to the bridge’s electrical components and sensors,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“This work was scheduled to be completed at the end of the navigation season (May 15 to October 15) to have minimal disruption to boating traffic during the summer.”

The bridge will remain open to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians during this period, with short term impacts during intermittent operations of the bridge as part of the testing and commissioning procedures, Municipal officials say.

Smaller boats that do not require the bridge to be opened will also be accommodated during this time.

“The bridge rehabilitation project will be completed at the end of 2023,” Municipal officials say.

“This work has included rehabilitation of the steel bridge deck on the movable portion of the bridge, various concrete repairs, and improvements to the lift mechanisms/infrastructure.”

Municipal officials added: “The Municipality of Chatham-Kent appreciates the patience and cooperation of the residents of the Community of Wallaceburg during this project.”
