Alvinston’s Kathryn Shailer named NDP candidate in upcoming by-election in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex

New Democratic Party of Ontario officials say on Thursday night, members officially nominated Kathryn Shailer as the Ontario NDP candidate for the upcoming by-election in Lambton–Kent–Middlesex.

“With strong roots in Alvinston, an extensive educational background, and leadership roles in various Canadian post-secondary institutions, Kathryn is uniquely prepared to address the needs of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex,” NDP officials say.

“With her experience, compassion, and sincerity, she is the advocate the community deserves at Queen’s Park.”

NDP officials added: “In her community, Kathryn is a driving force for positive change. She has been involved with the Brooke-Alvinston Optimist Club, takes active roles in Friends of Campbell Park, and the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts. She also orchestrates the Alvinston Arts & Music Festival and extends her impact through initiatives like the Community Friendship Meals at Bothwell United Church. Her diverse contributions are all focused on building stronger, more caring communities in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.”

Shailer played a pivotal role in organizing the NDP’s federal and provincial campaign committees, NDP officials say.

“Alongside Marit Stiles and the Ontario NDP Caucus, she’s ready to deliver solutions for faster, better, publicly-funded, and publicly-delivered health care,” NDP officials added.

“She’s ready to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, fight for good jobs with better wages, and push for stronger investments in education, housing, and environmental sustainability. After five long years under Ford’s Conservatives, working Ontarians are grappling with tougher living conditions, overshadowed by government corruption and policies skewed towards insiders and corporate gains. That’s why Kathryn is committed to bringing transparency, accountability, and integrity back to Queen’s Park, and it’s why she’s stepping up as the Ontario NDP candidate for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.”

Shailer lives in Alvinston home, is a mother of two and a grandmother of three.

A date for a by-election has yet to be called.

However, the Provincial Government has until early April to schedule a date.

We’ll provide more details as they become available.
