Shoplifting incident leads to charges in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On February 19, 2024 at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service received a call from an employee at Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham regarding a woman shoplifting in the store.

Prior to police arrival, an employee confronted the female suspect, and following a short altercation was able to recover the items concealed within her bag.

The woman subsequently fled from the store, however, she was later located by police and arrested for theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The 31-year-old Chatham woman was ultimately transported to police headquarters for processing, where she was later released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
