Pair found inside abandoned motor vehicle in Chatham face multiple charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 7:50 a.m., police responded to an abandoned motor vehicle on Colborne Street in Chatham. Officers arrived on the scene and located a man and woman inside.

Through investigation, officers learned on August 10, 2023, the man was arrested for bail violations. He was released with conditions and a future court date. When he failed to attend this date, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released with a new court date of March 18, 2024. He currently faces the following charges: possession of stolen property, theft and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Officers also learned the woman had been arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Bridgewater, NS in April 2023 and released with conditions prohibiting her from leaving the province of Nova Scotia and communicating or associating with anyone who has a criminal record.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
