‘Spring Seed Library’ returning to CKPL on March 19

The Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) has announced that the ‘Spring Seed Library’ is returning on March 19, 2024.

Chatham-Kent residents can ‘borrow’ seeds from all 11 CKPL locations.

CKPL Grows Seed Library will offer a variety of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds at each branch.

Last year over 6,300 seed packages were distributed across Chatham-Kent, Municipal officials say.

“CKPL Grows Seed Library provides an opportunity for residents of Chatham-Kent to grow healthy gardens, have access to affordable food, and create beautiful spaces in their own backyards and local communities,” library officials added.

“Chatham-Kent Public Library members can borrow seeds for free, save the seeds they grow, and return some of those seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season.”

Gardeners are also encouraged to ‘grow a row’ for Salvation Army Food Banks using vegetable seeds from CKPL’s Spring Seed Library.

Produce can be donated at Salvation Army Food Banks located in Chatham (19 Raleigh Street), Blenheim (24 Talbot Street), Ridgetown (19 Main Street) and Wallaceburg (600 Lowe Street).
