Warming centre opening at Chatham Hope Haven

Cold weather is being predicted for Chatham-Kent until Saturday, March 23.

“Chatham Hope Haven will operate as a Warming Centre from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting (Thursday) until Saturday, March 23,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“They are located at 183 Wellington Street West, Chatham. Please contact the Homeless Response Line (HRL) at 519-354-6628 if you require assistance with transportation.”

Municipal officials say anyone can be affected by extreme cold-related weather conditions, depending on length of time of exposure to cold.

Those especially at risk include:

– Older adults over the age of 65

– Infants and young children

– Outdoor workers

– Homeless persons, and/or those without warm clothing or food

During extreme cold weather, residents are encouraged to call or visit friends and neighbours who may be at risk, and keep pets inside, Municipal officials say.

Anyone experiencing homelessness or needing additional services should call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628 (24/7).
