Excitement is building as the student cast and crew are set to take the stage in May for the UCC production of the musical Matilda.
“This is our first production since the pandemic and we are thrilled to be back,” says Jordan Matteis, the Guidance Department Head for UCC and producer of this year’s show, in a media release.
“Our cast and musicians have been hard at work perfecting their performances; and the crew is working to ensure a top-notch presentation. It’s going to be a great show.”
There are about 25 students in the cast, with a 12-piece student orchestra and another 25 students behind the scenes.
Construction and visual arts students have assisted with set building and painting.
Matilda is based on the 1988 children’s novel of the same name. The story features Matilda Wormwood, played by Olivia Gregory. Matilda is a precocious child with an uncaring mother and father, who attends a school run by the tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull.
“Matilda is a fun person,” says Olivia. “She has humour, she’s smart, she’s amazing and I just love being her. It’s truly an amazing experience!”
Performances are scheduled from May 1 to 4, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the UCC theatre.
