Two arrested after a shooting on Walpole Island

Lambton OPP officials allege: On April 1, 2024, at 3:50 p.m., members of the Walpole Island Police Service (WIPS) and Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding an individual being shot at by two individuals on Dump Road.

Officers attended and confirmed no individuals had been injured.

Empty firearm casings were observed on the ground in the area.

A description of the suspects was obtained, which led to the officers locating and arresting them without incident.

A 40-year-old Walpole Island First Nation man and a 27-year-old Chatham man have been charged with the following:

– Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose,

– Pointing a firearm and,

– Discharge firearm with intent.

The Walpole Island resident is also facing two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance after a search revealed a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine.

The accused have been remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
