George Janssens

Surrounded by the love of his family, George Janssens of Chatham passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4th, 2024. He was 84 years old. Best friend and devoted husband to Gaye (Smyth) for 59 years. Loving father to Jill Jones (Matt) of Tecumseh. Proud grandpa of Caiden, Marnie, and Addie. Survived by his brother Danny (Diana Ewing) of Wallaceburg, sister-in-law Carol Janssens, sister-in-law Heather Smyth, Perry Smyth (Meranda), and Kealey McMillan (Darryl). George is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

George is predeceased by his son Joel (1989), his parents Joseph and Mary Janssens, brothers Alfred and Leonard, sisters Diana and Noreen, as well as his in-laws Maurice and Marnie Smyth and brother-in-law Larry Smyth.

George was a tool and die maker by trade and retired as the Sales Manager, Engineering & Production after 32 years of service at Superior Machine & Tool in Chatham. George and Gaye loved to travel and wintered in Florida for many years. If he wasn’t working on a project, you’d probably find him waxing his car. And there has never been a more dedicated fan of the Detroit Lions.

Gaye and Jill would like to thank Chatham-Kent Hospice for their exemplary care for George, especially Dr. Watterud and all the nurses and PSWs. We also want to thank the volunteers who make Hospice feel like a home for family members during such a difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham, 519-352-2710, on Wednesday April 10th, 2024. A visitation time will be held from 11:30am to 1:00pm, followed by a memorial service at the funeral home, beginning at 1:00pm. Cremation has taken place.

Friends and family planning to leave an expression of remembrance are asked to consider Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. On-line condolences may be shared at www.alexanderandhoulefuneralhome.ca.
