‘I Am Woman’ event raises over $2,000

The “I Am Woman” event, held on March 8-9 in Chatham, has successfully raised $2,232.25 in support of the Chatham Women’s Centre.

This empowering and inspiring gathering brought together a diverse group of individuals committed to celebrating and uplifting women in our community.

The Friday events included a women’s march led by the Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent and an evening celebration that featured a land acknowledgement by Tawny Allison, a networking kick-off led by Crystal Almeida, a presentation from Joelle Detailleur on Women United, an immersive sound bath experience from Lisa Uher of Just Breathe, a powerful panel discussion with Erin Liberty, Heather Robbins, Lisa Lester, Jill Howe, and Nadia Asghar, and lip sync performances from Neighbourly Care and the event organizing team.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming support and generosity displayed by the community during the I Am Woman events,” said Lisa Lester, one of the event organizers, in a press release.

“The funds raised will make a meaningful impact on the Chatham Women’s Centre’s ability to continue their vital work in fostering empowerment and providing resources for women in need in our community.”

The festivities continued Saturday with an expo and vendor event hosted by SheLeads.

More than 55 female-owned businesses and several women’s groups from within the community of Chatham-Kent came together to share their talents, products, and information with those in attendance.

Local DJ Courtney Wells and pianist April McGuigan provided music throughout the event and food and beverages were made available by Taste By Tiff.

Mainstreet Credit Union also shared their support by covering the donations for the first 100 attendees to arrive on Saturday.

“We have so much talent in our community and it is such an inspiration to see the talented women from Chatham-Kent come together to display their products at the expo,” said Erin TeWinkel, co-founder of SheLeads.

“Women were able to come out and shop, network and learn about the different community groups doing amazing things for Chatham-Kent,” added Elizabeth Suni who supported marketing for the event.

Following the events of the weekend, the resounding success reverberates as a testament to the strength and unity within the women of the Chatham-Kent community.

Beyond the financial contribution, the event leaves an indelible mark, fostering a sense of empowerment, celebration, and solidarity among all participants.

As we reflect on this vibrant weekend, it is clear the impact extends far beyond the dollars raised, leaving a legacy of inspiration and determination for continued advocacy and support.
