Special weather statement issued in C-K, as significant rainfall is expected

A special weather statement has been issued in Chatham-Kent, as significant rainfall is expected.

Environment Canada officials say hazards, include: Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 45 mm and locally higher amounts in thunderstorms.

The timing is beginning overnight tonight and ending early Saturday morning.

“Rain will begin near midnight tonight and continue into early Saturday morning,” forecasters say.

“The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall Thursday into Thursday night. Locally higher amounts are likely in thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening. There remains some uncertainty regarding the track of the low pressure area and resulting rainfall amounts.”

Forecasters added: “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.”
