The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook on Saturday, April 13, 2024, as 30-45 mm of rain has been received since Thursday, April 11 2024, water levels are anticipated to react more quickly with increased runoff and the region is experiencing saturated soils, ponding, and flooding in floodplain areas.
“The watershed has received 30-45 mm of rain since Thursday, April 11,” SCRCA officials say.
“Due to the amount of precipitation received the ground is saturated leading to increased runoff. Water levels and flows have increased throughout the watershed and could spill into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields. Significant flooding is not expected at this time however, saturated soils could contribute to ponding, increased runoff and possible increased erosion and seepage issues.”
SCRCA officials added: “Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.”
