Shed fire on Charing Cross Road causes $500,000 in damage

A shed fire at 19727 Charing Cross Road has caused approximately $500,000 in damage.

“At 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon Station #18- Blenheim and Station 16 – South Raleigh were dispatched to a working structure fire on Charing Cross Road,” fire officials said in a media release.

“The homeowner had a controlled burn which spread out of control to his nearby barn. The barn which was approximately 40ft by 60ft was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on scene. High winds drove the fire rapidly through the structure and sent black smoke across Charing Cross Road.”

Fire officials added” “The roadway was closed by CK Police so firefighters could perform water shuttle operations and keep the public out of the smoke path. An excavator was brought in to remove the roof from the collapsed structure to allow firefighters to gain access to the deep-seated fire.”

Fire officials say there were no injuries. and the cause has been ruled accidental.

The responding stations, included: Station #12 – Harwich North, Station #15 – Raleigh North, Station #16 – Raleigh South, Station #17 – Merlin and Station #18 – Blenheim.
