Sylvia DeLeary

Sylvia Teresa DeLeary, a member of Walpole Island First Nation, was reunited with her beloved husband Ronald Kenneth ‘Buster’ DeLeary on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the age of 89. Much loved mother of David, Allen (Flora Kallies), Kim DeLeary and the late Karen DeLeary. Cherished grandmother of Summer, Maren, Anthony, Chloe, Melissa, Jessica, Ransom, Cole and Storm and great grandmother of 9. She will be dearly missed by her siblings Robert and Irene, and greeted by her predeceased siblings, Jaynes “Pete” Altiman, Patty Jo, David, Frances, Allan and Duane Soney. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Sylvia will be remembered as a strong-women who was active and well respected in her community. She touched many lives during her 90 years, whether it was supporting other residential school survivors, assisting her community as a past member of the Walpole Island First Nation Band Council or supplying food and necessities through the Homemakers Club.

Family and Friends are invited to the Walpole Island Sports Complex for public visitation on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 1 until 6pm and for the Traditional – Dance Her Home Ceremony from 6-10pm. Her funeral service will be held at the Sports Complex on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11am followed by burial at Highbanks cemetery.
