OPP officials allege: On Tuesday May 28, 2024, members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with members of the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) Enforcement Officers conducted a joint safety initiative along 402 Highway, City of Sarnia.
OPP and MTO officers were engaged in a joint proactive safety initiative with a focus on commercial motor vehicle safety.
As a result of this initiative, officers made contact with 128 commercial motor vehicles resulting in:
– 19 Highway Traffic Act Violations and
– Five Commercial Motor Vehicles were taken Out of Service for Safety Violations.
The OPP and MTO would like to remind motorists of the following,
– Fast Lane: Any truck using FAST lanes must be a U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism FAST-approved carrier and transporting qualifying goods for a FAST-approved importer. The driver must have a valid FAST card.
– Local Lane: Motorist that is US-bound that enters the highway from Indian Road, Christina St, or Front St, can remain in the right-hand lane to proceed to the bridge. Vehicles attempting to cut through the lanes of stopped CMV’s cause significant traffic issues and risk being involved in a collision.
