Mayor calls on artists for public art sculpture

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff has announced a call for artists to submit their creative ideas for a sculpture set to enhance the community.

Municipal officials say submissions are open from June 3 to June 24, inviting artists to showcase their talent and vision for visual arts.

“Our community thrives on creativity and innovation,” Mayor Canniff said, in a press release.

“This call for artists is an opportunity for local and global talents to leave their mark on our community, enriching our public spaces for generations to come.”

Submissions should include a detailed explanation of the sculpture’s concept, along with examples of previous work.

Artists will collaborate with municipal staff, with the project slated to commence in the summer of 2024.

This program is a collaborative effort thanks to funding from the Chatham Kent Community Foundation, reflecting the importance of working together to foster creativity and enhance community well-being.

Chris Pegg, Executive Director of the Chatham Kent Community Foundation, emphasized the impact of public art on our community.

“Art has the power to inspire and unite us,” Pegg stated, in a media release.
