Watershed conditions statement issued by SCRCA, flood watch now over

The flood watch is over, however, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a watershed conditions statement.

“The St. Clair watershed experienced heavy rains early this week, water levels have started to decrease but are still high for this time of year in many areas,” SCRCA officials say.

“Localized flooding in low-lying areas; floodplain, agricultural and parkland is still taking place. The St. Clair watershed received 75-160mm of rain since mid-week of last week, due to the amount of rain the ground is saturated and unable to absorb runoff.”

SCRCA officials added: “Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.”

This message will remain in effect until Monday, July 22, 2024 at 4 p.m. unless otherwise updated.
