Walpole Island officials say ‘Enniskillen vote’ has been postponed

Walpole Island First Nation officials say the ‘Enniskillen vote’ originally scheduled for August 24, 2024, has been postponed.

Walpole Island officials say the postponement is due to a recent federal government discussion that has impacted the scheduling and preparation of the electoral process.

“These changes, imposed at the federal level, have created unforeseen complications that necessitate a delay to ensure all procedures are correctly followed and the vote is conducted fairly,” Walpole Island officials said.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and are working to address the situation as promptly and efficiently as possible.”

Walpole Island officials added: “Additionally, the funds for this vote, which are under control of the federal government, are currently accruing interest, which may provide some financial benefit during the postponement. We are actively working to resolve these issues and will provide updates as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

We’ll provide more details when they become available.
