Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials say Station #1 & Station #2 – Chatham responded to 99 McNaughton Ave. West at 5:54 a.m. for a structure fire.
“A general alarm was called and CK 1, CK 3, CK 4 and CK 5 are on scene, along with CK Police, CK EMS and Victim Services,” fire officials said in a media release just after 11 a.m.
“The building has been completed evacuated and numerous tenants have been displaced. Some tenants suffered minor smoke inhalation and were treated at scene by EMS, no other injuries to report.”

Both a CK Fire Investigator and the Office of the Fire Marshal are on route to the scene, fire officials added.
CK Housing officials have been notified.
The fire is under control and crews remain on scene, fire officials added.
Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say they currently working to provide assistance to residents of the apartment building.
“Of the apartment complex’s 120 units, 90 are affected,” Municipal officials said in a media release.
“99 McNaughton West is a municipally owned building. An Emergency Operations Centre has been established to deal with logistics around the event and to ensure accommodations for vulnerable populations are being arranged. CK Transit is being dispatched to transport affected residents to temporary accommodation locations in Chatham-Kent.”
Municipal officials added there were no serious injuries reported during the fire and it is currently not known when the residents will be able to return to their units.
“Our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of those displaced by the fire,” said Michael Duben, Chatham-Kent’s Chief Administrative Officer, in a media release.
“Our teams have been working diligently to ensure that displaced residents are housed and to ensure that work is expedited to allow residents to return to their units as soon as possible.”
EMS Services and Victims Services are on scene providing emergency support to those in need.
