A heat event is expected to begin tomorrow, August 26, 2024, in Chatham-Kent and Environment Canada has issued a heat warning.
“Maximum temperatures are expected to be between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to be between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius,” forecasters say.
“Humidex values will be in the high thirties to low forties. Cooler temperatures are expected Tuesday night.”
Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health, Environment Canada officials added.
“The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues,” forecasters say.
“Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.”
