OPP: Bluewater Bridge reopens

Update: On August 31, 2024, at approximately 8:45 a.m., emergency services including members of the Lambton County OPP responded to a traffic hazard on the Bluewater Bridge involving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) experiencing a fuel leak.

No injuries have been reported.

The westbound lane of the Bluewater Bridge was closed temporarily to allow for the removal of the CMV and fuel leak cleanup. The closure was in effect for several hours but has since been reopened.

The Lambton OPP would like to thank motorists for their patience during this incident.

OPP officials allege: The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are advising motorists that the westbound lane of the Bluewater Bridge is closed due to an ongoing traffic hazard.

The westbound lane of the Bluewater Bridge is currently closed to allow for the removal of the CMV and fuel leak cleanup. The closure is anticipated to remain in effect for a period of three to four hours and may result in a significant traffic backlog.

The Lambton OPP is requesting that motorists, if possible, adjust travel plans and avoid the area.
