The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Tow Program will continue in 2025 and affects how tow and storage service operators (TSSO) apply to and provide OPP-requested tow services.
Updated application forms and other information are now available on the OPP Provincial Tow Program webpage at opp.ca.
The deadline to submit an application to be on a Provincial Tow Program Detachment TSSO Tow List for the 2025 calendar year is October 16, 2024.
TSSOs who were approved for the 2024 tow list are reminded that they must complete and submit a new application by the above deadline to be accepted for the 2025 calendar year.
With the Ministry of Transportation (MTO)-led Tow Zone Pilot Program still in effect, the OPP will adhere to the guidelines set out in this Greater Toronto Area (GTA) pilot.
For the OPP Provincial Tow Program (all areas outside the GTA Tow Zone Pilot Program scope), the existing practice of obtaining or dispatching a TSSO will remain the same in 2025. Only those TSSOs that have been approved to be on a Detachment TSSO Tow List will be dispatched for police-requested tows.
TSSOs with questions about providing tow services under the OPP Provincial Tow Program can contact their local OPP detachment.
The OPP encourages all tow companies, operators, and drivers to educate themselves about the rules and regulations around providing police-requested tow services under the OPP Provincial Tow Program.
The OPP Tow Program supports the Ontario Government-led multi-agency Towing Task Force’s broader strategy to address criminal activity and violence in the towing industry.
The OPP is committed to enhancing public and officer safety, building public trust, and delivering bias-free OPP services to members of the public.
