Chatham man wins $1-million lottery prize

Clifford Manley of Chatham can realize his dreams after winning a $1 million MAXMILLIONS prize in the August 16, 2024 LOTTO MAX draw.

Clifford, a retiree, has been playing the lottery with OLG for more than 40 years.

He plays LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTARIO weekly, using a random set of numbers he chose and has stuck with all these years.

Now, he is celebrating his first big win and the joy of becoming a millionaire.

“I took my ticket to the store to have it validated, and when it was scanned, the lottery terminal froze. I thought I had broken it,” Clifford laughed, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall.

“I stood in the store saying, ‘Oh no!’ and gave my heart a pep talk: ‘Don’t you give up on me just yet!’ I shared the news with my wife, and she was just as shocked as I was.”

When asked how it felt to win a life-changing prize, Clifford lifted his hands, to reveal that they were shaking.

“This is how it feels,” he smiled.

“It’s amazing!”

Clifford has yet to decide what he will do with his winnings.

LOTTO MAX players in Ontario have won over $8 billion since 2009, including 107 jackpot wins and 914 MAXMILLIONS prizes, right across the province. LOTTO MAX is $5 per play and draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The winning ticket was purchased at Charlie’s Variety on Keil Drive South in Chatham.
