Firefighters were dispatched to 67 Queens Street South in Tilbury yesterday just after 1 p.m. after an oil-type substance was found while digging on the residential property.
Due to the nature of this unusual call, firefighters from Station #19 – Tilbury were supported by Chief officers from headquarters, who were also called to the scene, fire officials said in a media release.

Under the mutual aid agreement with Windsor Fire and Rescue, hazmat support was requested.
The Windsor Hazmat team determined through testing that the substance was low hazard, allowing the homeowner and contractor to begin clean up, fire officials added.
“The scene was handed back to the homeowner and we appreciate the support of the local community with the required road closure during the afternoon,” stated Fire Chief Chris Case, in a media release.
“Thank you to the Windsor team, as we were once again able to benefit from their expertise to reassure the community.”
Residents in the arena received visits from firefighters to reassure them that there was no risk, fire officials added.
