Local artist Evan Willick has created four unique pieces of artwork that will soon be displayed at the First Five Program primary care offices and the main office at the Chatham site of the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres (CKCHC).
The vibrant paintings are designed to brighten the environment for children and families visiting the facility.
One of the standout pieces, titled “Elmo is the Same as You Head to Toe,” is intended to educate children about the human skeleton in a fun and relatable way, using the popular character Elmo to introduce the different bones in our bodies.
Another piece, “Doc McStuffins,” is also geared toward children, offering reassurance that doctor visits and checkups are nothing to fear.
With the well-known phrase “The Doc is in!,” the painting fosters a sense of safety and comfort for young patients.
Pictured alongside Willick during the artwork unveiling are members of the First Five Program team: Nurse Practitioner Kathy-Lynn Stennett, Registered Practical Nurse Sarah Galos, and Nurse Practitioner Lisa Babcock.
Another of Willick’s works, titled “Mind, Body, and Equality,” focuses on inclusivity and acceptance, reflecting CKCHC’s commitment to supporting all individuals in the Chatham-Kent community.
Sherri Saunders, Executive Director of CKCHC, expressed gratitude for Willick’s contribution.
“We are honored to have Evan Willick’s artwork,” she said, in a media release.
“These pieces not only add beauty but also promote inclusivity and connection to the care provided here. We hope they inspire meaningful conversations and foster greater understanding of the services offered at CKCHC while contributing to the healing and welcoming environment.”
The artwork has already made a positive impact on young patients, according to Sarah Galos, a Registered Practical Nurse with the First Five Program.
“Children have enjoyed the colorful pieces, especially recognizing Doc McStuffins and Elmo. It has brightened their day and helped create a more relaxed atmosphere during appointments,” Galos said.
The First Five Program is now accepting referrals.
