Joseph Vandenbogaerde

With heavy hearts we announce that Joseph Desire Vandenbogaerde passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the age of 83.

He will be forever loved by his wife of 61 years; Shirley (nee Palocz) and by his children Mark (Debbie) Vandenbogaerde, Charlotte (Dave) Whitehead and Irene (Orlando) Rodrigues. Cherished Grandfather of Joseph Vandenbogaerde (Kirstin), Dalton Vandenbogaerde (Tess), Luke Vandenbogaerde (Bailey), Samantha, Kyle, Jonathan, Rebecca and great grandfather of June, Karson, Wayne and Kash.

Son of the late Gus and Marie Vandenbogaerde and son in law of the late August and Esther Palocz.

Joe was a dear brother to John (Helen) Vandenbogaerde, Paul (Lois) Vandenbogaerde, Theresa (Armand) DeCaluwe, Thomas (Barbara) Vandenbogaerde, Christine (the late Jack) Rahn, Patrick Vandenbogaerde (the late Sharon Bush), Michael (Joanne) Vandenbogaerde, Maria Vandenbogaerde and will be fondly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

As with many life-long farmers, Joe also worked a full time job including 5 years at Dow Chemical and 33 years at Chinook Chemical.

Working as hard as Joe did, did not stop him from volunteering his time for many different organizations including the Port Lambton Volunteer Fire Dept, the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Sombra Optimist Club and the Knights of Columbus.

In his spare time, you could often find him playing golf, a good game of cards or vacationing with family and friends.

Family and Friends are invited for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231), on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.

Joe’s Mass of the Resurrection will take place at Our Lady Help of Christians Church (corner of Elgin and Duncan) on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:30am with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
