The makeup of Chatham-Kent’s ward boundaries and Council composition is set to be discussed at a pair of public consultation sessions, pending Council approval.
The second report from StrategyCorp regarding a ward boundary and Council composition review is on the Council agenda for Monday, November 4, 2024.
Judy Smith, municipal clerk and director of governance, is recommending the consultant to bring the options to the community for feedback.
“StrategyCorp be directed to present options of ward boundaries (Maps 1-7) for public consultation on Thursday, November 14, 2024 and Monday, November 25, 2024 and report back to Council on Monday, December 16th with a final
proposal,” Smith said in her report.
Smith said the purpose of her report is to finalize the ward boundary options for final public consultation ensuring Council is comfortable with the proposed options StrategyCorp has prepared and direct the consultant to facilitate public consultation on those particular options only.
“Deputations were not received this evening as this step is a draft of options to present to the public for comments,” Smith said.
“StrategyCorp wanted to ensure they have captured Council intent prior to going out for full public consultation. Public meetings will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 and Monday, November 25, 2024 at the John D. Bradley Centre starting at 6 p.m. These public meetings will be live streamed. Deputations will be permitted at these public meetings.”
Smith added: “StrategyCorp will return to Council on December 16, 2024 with the final report including public comments and a recommendation for Council consideration and voting. According to the Chatham-Kent Procedure By-law, no deputations will be received at the Council meeting on December 16, 2024 as full public engagement would be complete at the public meetings in November and the Let’s Talk survey.”

Monday’s meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Civic Centre in Chatham.
