Students at Wallaceburg District Secondary School (WDSS) rallied together to support a local student Ma’iingan in his fight against leukemia, raising funds and awareness through collaborative efforts.
Two student groups, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program and the Future Elders Group, joined forces to organize a fundraiser.
Over three weeks, they raised $800 through the sale of custom-designed clothing, created in partnership with Screen Art.
The funds were further bolstered by a $400 donation to the Ronald McDonald House from the Future Elders Group.
The fundraiser was a community-driven effort, with contributions from students and staff alike.
The initiative was spearheaded by Peyton Gray, who designed the shirt featured in the campaign, and supported by key members from both groups.
Participants included Melissa Day, Raven Day with Ma’iingan, and Lisa Zandbergen, the PSW program teacher. Joining them were students Felix Dramnitzke, Sitara Freeman, Keanan Johnson, Alex Ross, Tyler White, and Biidaasged Chiblow, who represented both the PSW and Future Elders groups.
