OPP officials allege: Police are seeking the public’s assistance regarding additional incidents where rocks are believed to have been thrown at moving vehicles in Markham.
On September 20, 2024, the Aurora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received several reports of rocks being deliberately thrown at moving vehicles by a passing vehicle or person. One of these incidents resulted in a serious collision, in which two individuals suffered life-threatening injuries. One of those individuals has since stabilized and is in recovery, while the second victim remains in critical condition in hospital.
Additional incidents were reported to the OPP and York Regional Police (YRP). On November 30, 2024, shortly before 11:30 p.m., the OPP was notified of a rock being thrown at the windshield of an occupied bus on Highway 48, north of Major Mackenzie Drive in Markham. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.Â
The OPP believe these incidents are all linked to the same suspect(s) and vehicle, possibly a light-coloured sport utility vehicle (SUV).
