80 children to participate in ‘Holiday with a Hero’ in Chatham-Kent

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment, in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS), Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), Ontario Parks – Rondeau Provincial Park, Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue (CKFR) have received child nominations for this weekend’s Holiday with a Hero event and 80 children will be participating.

Organizers of the event would like to inform the public that the event includes a procession of emergency vehicles.

On December 14, 2024, beginning at approximately 9 a.m., the procession will escort the participants from the shopping location on St. Clair Street to the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Richmond Road, Municipality of Chatham.

Volunteers from the community and various emergency services serving the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be participating in the Holiday with a Hero event.

The event aims to make a memorable holiday for the group of 80 children nominated from the community while fostering positive relationships with emergency service personnel.

The children, paired with a “hero” to assist, are provided a loaded gift card then tasked with finding a gift themselves and their families. After shopping, the children have breakfast with Santa while elves wrap the newly acquired gifts, and spend some time having fun with bouncy castles, face painting along side their “hero.”

The OPP, along with all the participating emergency services, would like to take this opportunity to thank the multitude of sponsors that make this event possible.
