CKHA & Midwives of Chatham-Kent announce the addition of a new full-time midwife

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) in partnership with the Midwives of Chatham-Kent have announced the addition of Kara Vandersluis as a full-time midwife to the team.

“We are excited to welcome Kara to the organization,” said Dr. Zeke Milkovic, Acting Chief of Staff at CKHA, in a media release.

“Her professional experience and strong ties to the Chatham-Kent community make her an invaluable asset. With her arrival, we continue our commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care, and we are confident that Kara will make a positive impact on the lives of many.”

As a graduate of Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree specializing in Midwifery, Vandersluis brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her new role, hospital officials say.

Following her graduation, Vandersluis worked with the Midwifery Services of Durham, where she provided care for a diverse population in a midwifery-led hospital unit at Markham Stouffville Hospital.

She later continued her work with Family Care Midwives Vaughan before relocating back home to Chatham-Kent.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to return back home to Chatham-Kent to be near my family. Providing high-quality midwifery care to the mothers in my hometown is vitally important to me,” said Vandersluis, in a press release.

Since 1996, the Midwives of Chatham-Kent have been supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

They are committed to providing a full spectrum of care, from prenatal appointments to labour and delivery support, and postpartum recovery either at home or in hospital, focusing on empowering families to make informed decisions about their care and ensuring that every client feels supported throughout their journey.

“It is a privilege to work closely with our various colleagues at CKHA, ensuring a seamless and integrated experience for all of our clients,” said Simone Staats, Head Midwife of the Midwives of Chatham-Kent, in a press release.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kara back to her hometown of Chatham-Kent. With her expertise and compassionate approach, we are confident she will be an incredible addition to our team, further enhancing the high level of care we provide to the community.”

Vandersluis’s expertise, dedication to her patients, and deep roots in the Chatham-Kent community make her a valuable addition to the team.
