Arrest made after a ‘high risk incident’ on Aamjiwnaang First Nation

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On January 10th at 8:30am, the Sarnia Police service responded to a residence in the area of Tashmoo Avenue and Maness Court within Aamjiwnaang First Nation.

Information received was that one individual had been assaulted by another.

Police formed grounds to arrest a male party who had retreated inside a residence, refusing to exit.

This necessitated the deployment of additional SPS resources including Emergency Response Team, K9, Investigators, patrol officers and a negotiator.

The male later surrendered to police and was arrested without incident.

The name of the accused and specific details of this investigation are being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

“High risk incidents are inherently unpredictable,” stated Chief Derek Davis, Sarnia Police Service, in a media release.

“With the benefit of hindsight, some may question the need for such resource deployments. Emergency equipment and capabilities must be immediately available when needed, and those needs can emerge in seconds. As police, our goal is always to seek peaceful resolution to high-risk incidents, and that requires readily available options to respond effectively as a situation evolves. When it comes to the safety of the public and our responding officers, this is a proper, responsible, and necessary response in today’s world. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and and highly trained team of officers to respond to dynamic and complex incidents in the communities we serve.”
