Confirming what had been promised for weeks, United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday, February 1, 2025, a 25% tariff on most imports from Canada.
The President made the announcement on his own social media outlet, Truth Social:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to speak on Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. EST, addressing the issue.
“No one — on either side of the border — wants to see American tariffs on Canadian goods,” the Prime Minister said on social media on Friday.
“I met with our Canada-U.S. Council today. We’re working hard to prevent these tariffs, but if the United States moves ahead, Canada’s ready with a forceful and immediate response.”
