Lambton OPP: Automated Licence Plate Recognition utilized in Sarnia

OPP officials allege: Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system assists officer in stopping and charging a driver from Caledon.

On January 30, 2025, at approximately 12:40 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, was alerted by the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

A traffic stop was initiated on Indian Road North, Sarnia.

As a result, a 24-year-old of Caledon, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with the following offences:

– Drive motor vehicle – no licence

– Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 6, 2025, in the City of Sarnia.
