TBT: ‘Crazy Legs Bonspiel’ was first held in Wallaceburg in 1977

In recognition of Wallaceburg’s 150th anniversary this year, the Wallaceburg & District Museum has launched a new feature on social media: ‘150 Facts, for 150 Years’.

Here is one of their recent posts:

“(Friday, March 21, 2025 was) the first day of the 2025 “Crazy Legs” Bonspiel at the Sydenham Curling Club, the first of which was held in 1977.

Ken ‘Crazy Legs’ Murphy was well known in this community for his outgoing nature and his love for the game of curling.

He was also known as a grand entertainer with a great sense of humour.

He would stand each foot on a curling rock and “ride” the stones down the ice. He was inducted into the Builder’s category of the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 for his efforts with the Sydenham Curling Club.

Ken passed away in 2023, with the Crazy Legs Bonspiel a lasting testament to his legacy.”
